Yes, Elizabeth, it’s sad to say, but I agree. I gave up more than 2 years ago, after an interminable string of time-wasters, cat-fishers and scammers, etc. I haven’t had the heart to try vanilla sites since.
It’s almost inevitable that dating sites will actually sabotage finding a partner (e.g. by removing useful features until there’s nothing left but a parade of photos). After all, once successful you will leave, and they will lose a customer.
Instead, the goal is to keep its users clicking and swiping, by endlessly dangling the hope that the next click or swipe will yield someone better than the last. Sites look the other way at all the bogus profiles, etc., because they promote the illusion that Mr or Miss Perfect is within reach. Just one more swipe! Look at that picture! She/he/it is real, right? Oh, someone even better! She/he/it will respond, right? No? Swipe! Swipe! Swipe!
