The Himalayas – The Vacation you’ve been waiting for

In about a week I’ll be embarking on a trip to the Himalayas. It’s one of the travel destinations I find myself returning to more than others. There’s this really wonderful mix of peace, serenity, easily accessible knowledge, and varied cuisine. I like to think that I’m drawn to places by my intuition and that there’s a special someone who might like to join me. I’m treating this post like a message in a bottle. Here’s my letter; I’ll set it adrift on the web, and whomevers shores it may wash upon, if you find it intriguing, perhaps this dream can become a reality. The vagueness of my exact location is intentional.

Imagine waking up to tea on a balcony, high above the ground, looking out at the Himalayas. You weren’t pulled out of sleep by industrial noise, but rather by birdsong at just the right time. Stretching, grabbing ahold of the cup I’ve offered you, breathing in its wonderful aroma- loose-leaf chamomile I’ve gone for today. You sit in the stillness, warmth of the mug in your hands, and sit down to read a book you’d never quite found the time for. Shortly after, we go for a walk down the side of the hill, first to a cafe with homemade chocolate mousse, then to the boat marooned on the side. There’s a crystal-clear lake with water so warm it feels like a second hug. Pushing off from the shore, boat gently swaying, we row further out onto the water. Ripples cascading around the boat, birds soaring overhead. Notice how there’s not a sound. The lake is utter stillness.

Rowing to the other edge to have dinner, sitting on off-white throw pillows and watching the sun setting over the same lake in a myriad of reds, oranges, yellows, blues, and purples, leaning in towards each other – a source of warmth as the sunlight fades. Walking back home together, side by side, laughing, talking about life, shortly to our rooms. You’ll never get over how simply taking your top off can stupefy me, nor how right it feels to embrace, to be inside my arms. How seen, connected, and whole you feel as I suckle, and how the whole world falls away into a space that’s just ours. Just presence, calm and whole.

I could elaborate far more on erotic components, but there’s plenty of time for that; I’d rather elaborate on all the incredible features this journey has that aren’t me. Hot springs, massages, meditation, private yoga classes, treks in the Himalayas, food of all kinds.
