Testing “voice chat” today

I will add the “voice-chat” function to Private Messages today (evening in UK, afternoon in USA), just so we can test it out. If it works ok with no big issues it can stay. If it’s problematic, doesn’t work properly, causes too much unwanted pestering, then it will be removed. Personally, I’m quite happy with the current state of the site so I’m rather reluctant to add stuff that changes the “atmosphere” and how members communicate. But this might be a really positive addition (no need to give out your phone number etc) ….so let’s give it a try.

– You will see a telephone icon in top-right corner of the individual message window. Tap that to call.
– It will be Friends Only, you will only be able to call people on your friends list.
– Recipient will get a small notification on screen, plus a light ringtone.
– All calls are 100% private & encrypted, I can not listen to anyone’s conversation.

So let’s try it out. I would suggest normal messaging with your Friend prior to calling, arrange a time etc. Random calling people can be considered pestering, if people complain to me about it I will take action. No pestering please! If your Friend is pestering you with calls, simply remove them from your friends list – then they can’t call anymore.
