Ok, I have heard back from the website hosting company who say that everything is fine, most pages are loading in 2 or 3 seconds.
Which is total crap, I am getting load times of 5, 10, even 20 seconds or more.
So I will probably soon move the site to a different host.
In the meantime, I would appreciate as many people as possible commenting below …
– click through a few pages on the site, and tell me the approximate load time for each – (eg. Front page, any map page, any profile page, any forum page)
– IMPORTANT: tell me which type of device you are using (android phone/tablet, apple phone/tablet, PC/laptop)Thanks.
May 9, 2020 at 4:26 pm #3559AnonymousInactiveI’m using an Apple phone and it’s taking about 10 seconds or more
May 9, 2020 at 5:34 pm #3560AnonymousInactiveAbout 10 to 20 seconds . Sometimes it’s not loading at all
May 9, 2020 at 11:15 pm #3569AnonymousInactiveto do load test of the website use these resources https://geekflare.com/test-your-website-load-time/
May 9, 2020 at 11:23 pm #3570AnonymousInactiveFrom using the load test resources the load time results are overall good, but what you need to see if people are using the same internet providers that are having the most issues, what devices are having the issue, for myself the pages load very quickly,

Mooncake, yes the pages sometimes load fast for me too, then sometimes they can “hang” for 10 to 20 seconds, or more, it varies. And that unpredictability is the problem.
I will see if the situation improves over the coming days. It’s incredibly annoying, because the site is pretty “lightweight” , the pages should load fast for everyone, on all devices.
May 10, 2020 at 12:11 pm #3575AnonymousInactiveI sent you a message on issues WP based sites have with page load speed, you may want to use the link or google to try some of the solutions offered, don’t know how well versed you are with WP based sites, but to do it right for a membership site, it’s not going to be cheap with those plugins if you want superior performance, it just depends on how large you want to get before it becomes unstable.
May 10, 2020 at 12:49 pm #3576Mooncake…. The slowdown issue first appeared suddenly 3 days ago, it didn’t slowly get worse over time. That suggests to me a webhosting issue.
But I don’t know.
I have NO knowledge of servers, WP technicalities, optimization, nothing.
ZERO.
I am not a tech person.
When I pay a company to host this website, I expect THEM to sort out any problems.
But they are pointing at similar speed-test sites like your link, and saying “Look, everything’s fine”.So moving to a different host is the likely solution.
Are you getting constant quick load times on mobile or PC/laptop?
Most people reporting slow speeds have been in UK, wondering if that’s a factor.May 10, 2020 at 1:12 pm #3577AnonymousInactiveMichael: that’s not really how it works with hosting companies, they’re not going to paid for those premium plugins, you really need to know how to use WP or find someone to manage it for you, all they do is host the site, they’re not going to even do plugin updates, they just give you a basic WP free site, which isn’t good for large membership websites just smaller blogs, to make it work you will have to customize using plugins (there’s thousands of them, a premium top end membership site theme may set you back a couple hundred bucks) for your specific type of site your trying to have. that’s the reason so many of the free sites don’t last, people don’t realize that it takes a lot of work, and it’s not cheap if you want something that has scalability, for example that’s why the abfsingle site when to paid memberships.
Have you ever looked into your WP admin panel to see what’s going on it’s vital that you know how to use it.May 10, 2020 at 1:48 pm #3579Mooncake… yeah, I was probably exaggerating a bit. I know perfectly well how to use WP at a site admin level, plugins, etc.
Probably best to continue this conversation in PM, not public.
My question : Are you getting constant quick load times on mobile or PC/laptop?

May 11, 2020 at 5:55 pm #3607AnonymousInactiveI am too struggling with the loading speed of pages, especially messages. If I try and delete a message it freezes the whole screen and I have to relog in. I haven’t been a member long but the last few days have been particularly slow, a good 20-30 seconds to navigate through the screens.
I also tried on my tablet today and messages just disappeared off the bottom of the screen, making them unreadable as I couldn’t access the last message sent by another member. I eventually gave up reading messages until my phone had recharged. It just feels like the site is grinding to a holt. It is a shame as it is probable the best site I have joined for ABF so far. I hope we are all back up and running soon. Katie xxMay 11, 2020 at 10:11 pm #3612Thanks for commenting Katie.
Most people reporting slow page loading seem to be UK based, so I am unsure if that’s a factor or not. The site is hosted in the U.S. I would like more USA based members to comment, please. Fast or slow? The site will be moved to a better, faster webhosting company. But you will have to put up with slow page-loading probably for a few days. Yeah, I don’t like it either. And I’m paying for it!!?
