I’m wondering if someone can enlighten me as to what the heck my breasts think they’re playing at?
I’ve been pumping for pleasure for a good few months now and I’ve been enjoying so much that I appeared to have induced lactation 😳 this was not my plan, as I don’t really want the inconvenience of all the washing/leaking etc when I don’t have a partner. However, my body has a mind of it’s own and I’ve had enough of battling it due to various chronic health issues over the years, so I’ve decided it’s just easier to go with it.
I started getting clear liquid out of one of my nipples, then the same thing happened with the other nipple. After that, I started getting a few drops of milk out of the first nipple, followed by the other. So far, so good. The thing that surprised me though, was that I’ve now started getting clear liquid as well as milk out of the first nipple, seemingly out of different ducts 😕 it’s still only a few drops of both, not much at all.
My thoughts are that this is milk ducts clearing out at different rates, but I’m hoping someone can confirm this or tell me what they’re actually up to if it’s not what I suspected.

It sounds like you have the right idea and it’s an early stage of the process. If you want proper confirmation give your doctor a call 🙂 From my understanding it’s still normal

I’m no expert but it’s likely naural oils and lubrication as well as possibly either a very very watery “milk” or you can even get clear colostrum.
It’s unlikely to be anything harmful.
If you don’t want milk, stopping pumping for week should pretty much do it. Also taking ibuprofen, Benadryl and Sudafed if your medical issues allow.
If you get pics of the leakage and want to PM me with them I’ll give you a qualified nurses’ opinion lol.
Thanks Lucy. You don’t get colostrum when inducing lactation, only when you’ve had a baby, as the hormonal conditions are different.
To be honest, I’m not bothering that I’m lactating a bit now, as I had visions of myself leaking milk everywhere like I did after my kids were born, but it is much more gradual when you induce lactation. It has been for me at least. I wouldn’t have the self control to stop anyway 🤦🏼♀️🤣
That is exactly what is happening Rachy J. Women usually get clear liquid with a dark tinge when ducts are clearing out, then clear liquid, then clear liquid with milkiness to it….to full on milk. Yes, ducts can operate at different time frames…different stimulation, different time frames. Some ducts are just a little further ahead than others.
And you are correct, induced lactation never produces colostrum, colostrum only when a woman has just had a baby due to the hormonal changes.
Thankyou. Yeah, I was certain about the colostrum and I knew it was due to hormonal factors. I wasn’t sure about the various different coloured liquids coming out of my nipples. My body is always doing weird things that freak me out, I’m glad this isn’t another example of that 🤣
Rachy, when I was inducing, the first liquid that came out was dark brown with streaks of black…very unsettling. I found out that the discharge was the ducts clearing out old congealed milk, bacteria and other cellular detritus that was stuck there after weaning my kiddo 20 years ago. After a few weeks, started getting clear liquid, then watery-milky and finally milk. Sounds like you are in a similar process.
Yikes, Yogi! That must have been scary! Mine was clear then a bit milkier and now milk. Not much, only a few drops, but it looks like other ducts are clearing because on other parts of my nipples, I’m getting clear liquid 😳 I’m able to see where different colours are coming from because it is only drops. I think if I was collecting enough of it, the milk and clear fluid would be mixing together and look like watery milk.
