Amid COVID numbers trending upward around the world, I’m hearing more and more about people I actually know getting the virus. One of these was a double vaxed diabetic woman in her late 60’s who received the booster just prior to contracting COVID. She’s not hospitalized and recovering at home.
A question that has crossed my mind is to what degree, if any, the breast milk of women who have recovered from COVID can offer antibody protection to anyone who consumes their milk.
I wonder if anyone has any knowledge or experience on this topic to share here. I did find the following article to shed a bit of light……
Good thing that she was vaccinated. It could’ve been much worse had she abstained.
It would be interesting to find out if antibodies are passed along with the milk. If so, it wouldn’t be a substitute for being vaccinated. Though every little bit would help.
It’s still being studied, nothing finalized yet. But be aware. Any discussion of health benefits is for infants/toddlers, who weigh 10-20 pounds and who have nothing but breastmilk as their sole or primary source of nutrition. If there is is any benefit to adults, it is minimal at best.
Better to practice good safety and health hygiene. Get vaccinated, get boosted, wear a mask, use hand sanitizer. Be sure that you are not passing the virus to anyone you are around, out of respect for them, in particular the person you’re suckling from.
