Northern Ireland search box

Hi. I live in republic of Ireland, a stones throw from the North. I wonder what people on the Isle of Ireland would think of either a full ireland search box or a seperate Northern Ireland search box. There could possibly be someone living 5 miles over the road from me that wont show in the search because they are part of the UK search.

Hey Joanne. On the member search when you filter by Rep. of Ireland, does it not bring back any results for you? It seems to work just fine for me, and you were top of the results for females.

Ah I understand now. I thought it would include both but I can see now that it would technically fall under UK still.

Agreed, either an Ireland & Northern Ireland search option or to be able to select it out by regions some other way eg Counties

I agree with you on this. There are pages and pages of results under “UK”, but you have to go through each one individually to see if any of them are from NORTHERN IRELAND. Would be great if they could set up an individual search for NI only, just like it is for Republic if Ireland. Great idea.

The issue is …if I create a separate Northern Ireland search area, then what about Wales? And Scotland? Everything starts to get very messy if things are reorganized into new “zones”.

What’s missing from the search function on this site, essentially, is a “proximity” style search option – where you’d be able to find people, say, located within 50 miles of you, for example. In all directions. That tech exists, but requires Google-style location referencing. Plus it would require every single one of the 10,000 members of the site to update details on their profile. That’s not happening anytime soon on ABFheaven.

The search functions on this site are very, very basic. At some point, everything will be overhauled from top to bottom. Til then, you’ll have to put up with it. For 99% of users, these are not big issues.

But thanks for raising it. The search definitely needs improving. I promise to bear these things in mind.
