We have been trying to get lactation going for a long time, now that it is, and pretty productive when nursing, we want to supplement with a breast pump. We bought the Spectra SG Portable, set it all up according to the instructions and we are just not getting the results we hoped for. First off, the suction is ok, but there is no vacuum between sucks. Second of all, i am getting very little milk and it is all going around the flange. I have tried different pumps in the past with similar results. Does anyone have any advice on how to make pumping more effective? I’d hate to stop this ABF/ANR journey because I can’t pump.
May 10, 2025 at 2:00 am #577311I have the same issue. I can hand express a lot more than the pump is able to pump out. I wonder if some of it is not being full enough. My partner gets a lot more out than o hand express. It is frustrating so I am curious to see what others may have to say.

May 10, 2025 at 11:24 pm #577489I can’t take the domperidone. I tried to induce by pumping but it is like a full time job to keep it up, and sleepless nights. So, definitely it didn’t make sense without an actual partner. For me it seems, I won’t be able to fully lactate if not in a relationship where my partner can actually be doing all the nursing. My body hates pumps. They help, but only to a moment and then nothing happens unless I express by hand. I don’t have time for hand expression, so there is that. I have few small drops at any time but nothing is changing it beyond it, even if I pump for weeks. I tried few times and just accepted it. So, I think only a partner could change it. But I am thinking it won’t happen anytime soon. Lol. And I accepted that too.
About the pumping – I tried all possible size adjustments for flange, different flanges, nipple adjustments, speeds, messages, name it. My breasts is growing and expanding but milk is not coming. My hormones mess me up to a point I give up at that point of a few weeks in without a support in it, so in my case, I will only do it with a full support of a partner in a future.
