Getting the most from this site

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to this site and haven’t been very active so far. Obviously I see that there are personal ads, a chat room etc.

Are there any tips that more seasoned members can give for engaging on here? For example, in other online communities it is often discouraged to send unsolicited private messages. Is that also the case here? What is considered good practise when using the member search and friend request facilities? etc etc

Or is it still best to scroll though the forum topics and just join in?

I would be interested to hear other’s experiences.Thanks.

Hi Mark O, I would suggest :

– Make yourself as visible as possible on here by engaging with as many aspects of the site as you can. Chatrooms, general discussion forum, polls, puzzles, etc.

– Some users like the “community” aspect of ABFheaven. Some simply drop in, check their messages, and leave. Both approaches are fine.

– Unsolicited private message are perfectly ok, providing you read the profile of the person, especially their About Me section, and respect any conditions they specify ( eg. Local only, no men, etc ) . Other than that, it’s ok.

– Friends requests, same as above, and always include a brief note with the request.

– Bear in mind that successfully finding a partner here often involves a bit of luck. Being in the right place at the right time etc. So good luck!
