Over the years I’ve used a variety of pumps and flanges. None very successful. I currently have a Spectra double pump that is the best kind I’ve had so far.
Today Lacteck Flanges arrived with the adapters and I’m keen to give them a try. I sized down as I think I’ve been using too large of flanges for years which has been a stumbling block, but didn’t realize until recently!
Would love to hear your experiences with different equipment and how it worked for you, also regarding flange size and how that impacted your progress.
Once I’ve tried my new flanges, I’ll post an update here in the thread.

InactiveI got those inserts for flanges which are great because you can change them from smaller to larger sizes as your nipples are changing.
I stopped pumping as I got too busy and didn’t really meet anyone right to date, but what worked this time for me was the adapter with lacteck flanges for Spectra2 and those inserts. I also use only coconut oil for nipples and massage my whole breasts with coconut oil before each pumping session (if at home). I had the least issues with pain and had no blisters doing all these.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
January 25, 2024 at 2:16 am #385663Most of the sites selling pumps have charts to determine the proper flange size, which is important. You don’t want too large or too small. I reviewed and compared 2-3 of those and determined the proper size. Unfortunately, Laktek doesn’t have that information on their site.
My personal experience is that one breast does better with my old White River pump, and the other breast works will with the Spectra. Luckily my flanges can be adapted to each. Have used both, but not at the same time. Might be something to alternate their usage though.
January 25, 2024 at 1:59 pm #385791@starbreast Kat, that’s interesting about coconut oil. Does it do okay on silicone? Also, I’ve used oil on my nipples in the past and wondered if the way it sucked in so much more was beneficial or detrimental. It’s possible the problem was me using a flange that was too large.
It’s really helpful hearing about other women’s experiences.
January 25, 2024 at 2:15 pm #385796@flowrgardn I can’t thank you enough for being the one who told me about LacTeck flanges! I tried them last night for the first time and what a huge difference I found.
A rigid flange doesn’t do much to signal my brain that milk is needed. I have to think about how it feels when @johnny5 is latched on or it doesn’t seem to stimulate the right part of my brain.
Interesting how your breasts respond better to different pumps.
The LacTeck flange feels more like a mouth to me. The design is fascinating in its simplicity but effectiveness.
I haven’t seen drops yet but there’s times Johnny gets a hint of a taste, which makes us hopeful. We’re much more focused on our connection and the journey we’re on rather than milk but it would be a dream come true to produce milk again.
Last night within a few minutes of using the LacTeck flanges, there was a little clear spot on my nipple which was exciting to see!
I find it’s a little more challenging to keep the LacTeck flanges against my breast correctly because it doesn’t keep a constant seal like my Spectra flanges.
I was using 24mm before, but 21 in LacTeck fits much better. I read a lot of reviews of women saying LacTeck fit a little large so it pays to do your research, and measure your nipples!
Thanks again!

Inactive@ladyoceana I think maybe the size for the nipple too large, I had too large one of 24mm and 21mm and none did good for me until I measured and found out I was barely at 15-16mm so 17mm and 19mm is my way to go. The oil prevents rubbing so less skin problems. It doesn’t cause issues on my silicone flanges.

InactiveThere are insert flanges 15-19mm diameter if you need to make your smaller too.
February 2, 2024 at 4:37 pm #389801I use coconut oil as well😊. The Lakteck flanges are on my list of items I would like to get, glad to hear how much others like them!
