1. Go to your Messages.
2. In My Private Messages, touch the blue ‘Settings’ Cog in the bottom left of the window.
3. Choose Who Can Start Private Conversations With You?:
A. Everyone (all members)
B. Allow Friends (in your Friends List)
C. Nobody (though you can DM whomever you want)
4. Check or uncheck Enable notifications via email. With it unchecked you won’t be bothered twice as much if receiving a ton of DMs.
5. Disable sound notification on new message (does just that)This is an excerpt of a Tips and Tricks project Nurturing Bosom and I are putting together. It’s important to communicate this particular functionality now to help alleviate situations some of you are experiencing.

More selection and less angry people messaging me like I owe them my attention.

This is great, maybe it should be under FAQ’s? That way more people can see it, and they won’t think you and NB have anything to do with running the site or are admin.
Does this affect non friends but people who currently message you?

@juicyboobies it depends on the setting, with increased restrictions from Allow Friends to Nobody. In both cases you can DM anyone, though either of the above will limit who can contact you. So if Allow Friends was engaged for instance, anyone not on that list with whom you have an ongoing conversation will still be allowed to DM you, however; initial DMs from members not on your list are disallowed.
