When we have exchanged just a few messages back and forth, it gives me the major ick when a man decides to call me by some pet name. To me it feels disrespectful. It feels as though he thinks he’s got some “in” with me, like women are weak and I will be fooled to somehow be more connected to them because they have tried to call me hun, sweetheart, beautiful.

Later on, when we have gotten to know one another, I’m fine with the exchange.

    Is it just me, ladies?

It is part of rushing the relationship, a low key grooming tactic. I don’t like it. I haven’t earned the pet name. Means nothing.

I used to chat with a guy who always called me Sweetie. It felt patronizing even though I k we he meant well. I guess it better than being called Mommy. Age play is not my forte but I know it is for others which is great. I once got a DM on another site from a guy wearing a soiled diaper and addressed me as Mommy. No thanks.

Pet names are used when you’re IN a relationship. Trotting them out BEFORE the relationship exists seems manipulative.

@foldart- I completely agree. But you’d be surprised how many opening messages start with it. Or just a few sentences in. It’s gross, and not ok.
