I agree with the others after a year some sort of warning about account deletion due to inactivity should be sent out. Then if no response then the account is deleted. It would also be nice to be able to deactivate our accounts for a while if we n need a break.
October 15, 2025 at 9:23 am #649846As someone who has been on and off the site with periods of inactivity, I would prefer a warning type email that my account is in danger of being zapped. Maybe after 12 months.
On the other hand, there is a frustration when you see an account that is maybe 4 or 5 years inactive that you think you could possibly be a match for. It’s hard enough for us guys as it is, supply and demand.
October 15, 2025 at 10:41 am #649862I don’t think an abandoned account would hurt the site. You can see the last login the person was on so there is transparency in that respect. Plus some do return after a long hiatus. I would simply focus on getting more females to sign up for the site as the male to female ratio is very lopsided.
October 15, 2025 at 10:53 pm #650264I agree with Ed Rester that Michael would have to update rules as deleted accounts go through increases scrutiny if they used the same email address to re-create their deleted ABF account. Though, if they were not included in that list by Michael when purged then no scrutiny(work by Michael) would come if they came back. Just a thought.
On the other hand, I tend to self regulate when I search through members myself and stop looking after 3 to 6 months of inactivity (I am used to it). A lot of dating websites keep inactive files to make it look better than it is and I share that frustration. Though, We should be careful what we all ask for as deleting old accounts could reveal the unwanted truth that the pond of potentials is actually a muddy puddle of remaining accounts.
Removing old profiles could even add to the burden on the ladies (or scare away new members) with even more messages to their inbox as they are all that is left (though some may like the attention). But some of the messaging problems are happening anyway. I would like to hear the opinions of more ladies on this topic as they are underrepresented in this thread. Though they could be DM Michael their thoughts.
I may be outing myself here but As a researching type of person I have used the old profiles to data mine general information like cities/states with a lot of members that share ANR interest as I look for trends. I agree though after 3 years with a reminder email it should be safe to delete accounts if he needs the space on the server to save $$ as they can be data hungry with pics. We already have broken puzzles from accounts that have self deleted.
Anyway, that is my 2c. Take it with a grain of salt.
