I’d say just let them stay active. I think people leave the site with the expectation that they can come back at any time – that’s how virtually every other site works. I do not think the “dead” profiles clog up space or anything. You really have to search hard to even find them.
So unless there is a big enough monetary incentive to delete them, I would say just let it be.
October 11, 2025 at 2:41 pm #647593I have been away myself for a while. Sometimes people need a break.
But for several years? I think its not likely they will return.
The warning mail is a good idea. And after that: delete.October 11, 2025 at 3:41 pm #647627Delete them after a year. Nothing prevents them from creating another account.
Perhaps add a note somewhere when making new accounts that accounts older than a year will be deleted.October 11, 2025 at 4:19 pm #647645Agreed! One year is plenty, and it’s easy to make a new account. I dont know how easy it would be to set up some kind of auto-generated message after one year of inactivity to say (essentially) “log in or be deactivated,” and if they fail to respond after a set period (maybe 10 days? 30?), delete the account. If an auto-generated system isn’t possible, then I also like the idea to simply add a note when people sign up, saying accounts are deleted after one year of inactivity. Why add extra work? Make it as easy on admin as possible and just delete inactive accounts.
October 11, 2025 at 8:33 pm #647767Just good hygiene – 1 year abandoned accounts should be cleaned up. A few of them even have pictures and may have totally forgotten. It’s best for their privacy, and the channel as well.
October 11, 2025 at 9:32 pm #647803Get rid of them after a year. They know where to find us and start over.
October 12, 2025 at 12:20 am #647859I have mixed feelings because I met a few people I connected with who’ve not been off the site for over a year. The notifications work and are helpful. However, when I do a search in my area in a specific age group, less than half have been on the site in under a year. Anything beyond two years, they’ve definitely forgotten about the site. I’ve seen people with five year old profiles saying they are “new to this.”
There are plenty of businesses and apps that share dates for closing accounts if they are inactive for a period of time. Those that want to be here can sign up again.
October 12, 2025 at 12:22 am #647860Any chance to re-activate my old account?
I am in a relationship with someone I met back then and I would love to see our first messages!

October 12, 2025 at 6:36 am #648016You could send people a poke email for those that haven’t been in for 2+ years, saying they’ll be deleted. Some may come back. Else a global setting in the control panel to hide users of X inactivity.
October 12, 2025 at 7:39 am #648036Michael, I seem to remember reading somewhere that, once deleted, an old account can’t be reactivated using the same email address or IP address(?). I can’t find it now but I believe this is a safety feature to deter multi-account predators. This should perhaps be a consideration before zapping old accounts without explicit permission.
October 12, 2025 at 8:43 am #648051There were some good points made, but like most business do, they weed out the inactive acounts for a variety of reasons. I think it is not an issue to expect people to use there accounts on a yearly basis. Would you renew a paid membership year after year and not use the membership. If Michael didn’t sort the search results, how fun would it be to scroll through page after page of profiles, to find current profiles. I currently do computer work for a firm that has thier email blasts and catolog mailing reduced, because they get emails and US Mailings returned. And that is staff time wasted. Depending on how Micael manages the data, it ccould take time to notify people. So my vote would be one year of inactivity and drop them. If they want to return, they can start oner. I know of two women on two different site that passed away, but there they are, profiles come up on searches
October 12, 2025 at 2:20 pm #648155I believe in keeping things tidy.
The best scenario I’d support would be after a year of inactivity the user gets an informative message here and an email alerting them that after one more year their account will be frozen and stored intact in an Inactive User Archive (that could actually be reactivated). I understand that people can and do return often.
But this process would occur in the interest of the ACTIVE users, that are looking for other… ACTUAL ACTIVE users. I feel it would be unfair, and I dare say unkind having all these inactive accounts cluttering the main site.
But it would be additionally great to simply be able to self-suspend our own account (if nessassary). BUT our page would no longer be seen on the site anymore until reactivation. Now if we make this decision, we would understand that after 2 years of self-suspending our own account (again: a page no one can see) it would then be permanently deleted.
Sound good… fair, to you??
October 12, 2025 at 3:33 pm #648184You and I have chatted about this a few times. I would really like at least 2 year non active accounts deleted. If they decide they want to come back at some point, it’s better to make a new account with updated info. It helps show a better picture of if there really are people in an area when you search. Honestly, I’d suggest one year, but at least the 2+ years!!! For me, if they’ve been inactive for more than a month, I don’t bother messaging them and delete any chats over a month old…
October 12, 2025 at 7:06 pm #648316I think delete after 2 years. Thats plenty of time for someone to come back on.
October 14, 2025 at 8:58 pm #649646If possible, I would like there to be a way to reactivate dormant accounts. I’m one of the weirdos who has returned to this website on and off over the years.
