Hi! .., So, the title kind of says it all! I blocked my profile from messages for a while, I was getting so much spam, erotic messages from time wasters and fantacists; you know the kinda thing! but in among that, I was getting loads of ‘hi’ messages! I’ve opened my mailbox again after some months; and what do ya know “hey” seems to be the order of the day! now, I don’t personally reply to these, because I don’t know what to say and, I figure, if you want to talk to me you’ll actually read my profile and pay attention to what I want to find here, I know I reply to others in that energy! so, I’m genuinely not judging, I want to know; if you are reading this and you send “hi” messages, why do you do it? do you get much of a response rate? and if you receive them, do you reply back? am I being too harsh? keen to know what others think about this x
November 6, 2026 at 4:14 pm #841007I hear a lot of people talking about the dreaded “Hi” message! As a male member of this community, I’ve received them a few times myself. Instead of seeing it as a bad thing, I usually take it as a prompt to read their profile so I can figure out how to carry on the interaction.
Everyone has a different personality. Some people are just naturally shy or nervous about reaching out because, let’s face it, you never know what kind of response you’re going to get. While it can definitely come across as lazy, I try to think about the person behind the screen. I usually give them the benefit of the doubt and reply. If the conversation doesn’t go anywhere, then at least I tried—but you never know, taking a chance might lead to a great friendship or something even better.
You’re definitely not being too harsh, it’s totally valid to want that energy matched! But sometimes taking a gamble on a simple ‘hey’ can surprise you
But this is just what I think, everyone has different viewsNovember 6, 2026 at 4:28 pm #841013I am so sorry to you @velvetmoon that this happens to you, and also to anyone I have ever sent that dreaded message to. I am also sorry for sending time waster emails in general, I need to be better about that. Time is precious and it should not be wasted.
