Has anybody here ever tried long distance dating ? If so how did you manage it?
What were some key challenges and what did you do to keep it all together?Im a bit of a critical thinker so it occurred to me , it has to be the same right? When you date someone close by you see them when you can or when they want, if you dont commit or invest emotionally it falls apart, be faithful, or even if they cheat and you live in the same town they can cheat long distance dating too unfortunately.
So is it worth it ?
October 22, 2026 at 10:42 pm #832487It can work, but it can also be a nightmare. A lot of it depends on the distance and if meeting up can actually happen fairly regularly, or if there are oceans between you that stop that being viable.
Given that most communication is done over messages, calls and video calls, it creates a false sense of intimacy when you meet and that can mean things end up going further, faster than is wise. You can’t get a proper sense of someone or to lay the foundations for something that’s going to last when most of your communication is done virtually.
There’s no substitute for spending time together physically in the same place – it’s more difficult for people to hide who they are in reality and you get to see all of them, not just the best side they project online, although some people can still manage to convey that for a couple of days at a time!
On the flipside, I know of people who have met online, moved continents to be with their long term partner and have made a complete success of it. I think it probably comes down to what you want the endgame to be and how much effort you’re both willing to make it happen!!
October 22, 2026 at 10:47 pm #832491It definitely isn’t any and isn’t for everyone. Usually having a set amount of time that you won’t go without seeing each other is good. Like visiting once every month, or x amount of weeks. You need to be excellent at communicating if you have long distance, and you need to have a lot of trust. I’d say it doesn’t work most of the time. It can be stressful, and with flights, it can be expensive. So it definitely depends on the distance too.
October 22, 2026 at 10:48 pm #832492I’ve experienced a few long distance relationships in my 52 years of living. Building the connection and trust is vital. Distance doesn’t bother me if the connection feels right. You have one life, so live it.
It’s obviously got to be a two way thing. Although England is fairly small, I used to drive nearly 280 miles every Friday to spend weekends with my then girlfriend. On occasions she used to drive to me,It can work. Yes.
Good luck on your long journey if you intend to have them.October 22, 2026 at 11:05 pm #832497@welshie thanks Welsh, you are so smart, beautiful, fun, sexy, virtuous, amazing, inspiring, honest, did I mention sexy? Sexy.
