    Hello!

Can someone recommend a good brand of breast pump!? I need to be able to pump for a period in between getting home in the range of 10-12hours, so it should be strong enough on the go.

I can’t afford Elvie or Willow, but even the ones for up to 100$ are a risky choices. My double pump on the go had attached motor to it, is loud, broke in half on the motor part (still works, but not very wise to be using it), and did I mention is very loud???

If I keep trashing cheap ones what’s the point. I hope you used some and can recommend a good one.

At home I use Spectra S2 Plus, so it’s not possible to be used on the go.

I would prefer ladies opinions as they are the ones with the breasts. But, if you are man and in a long term relationship where you witnessed and supported the re-lactation journey on a daily basis, please do share.

    Thanks!

Hey! Have you tried the Momcozy pumps from Amazon? I personally saved for the elvie, which I like but my friend uses mom cozy, they’re affordable and have great suction she says. You can also get elvie/willow on eBay for amazing prices if you haven’t searched there yet!! Hope this helps. Message me for any other questions!

Yes, I was looking at Momcozy pumps but wasn’t 100% sure they are good or not.

I will have to look at eBay, but it makes more sense to put away the money for a Willow/Elvie. I will message you, thanks!

Just being between the jobs now, so this is not exactly my shopping spree time, Haha

I know some women that have used tens machines for this reason. They told me they had good results but I have never tried it personally.

I am interested in the suggestions you get too. I would love something small and disctreet to use

    Hi Kat and Ladies,
I’m new to inducing and bought my Willow Dual hands free 3.0 from Willow back in May. I reviewed other pumps and thought the Willow would fit the bill. It was a little pricey at $349 but i’d been saving for a couple months planning my induction so I went with it. It is relatively quite, I can hear the clicking of it when it pumps, but over all it suffices for my use around the house doing household chores, driving down the road, talking on the phone, standing, walking, cooking. I have mine linked to my phone so I get an overall record of my pumping history… the suction on it is adequate and gentle. If I had one complaint it would be that I does not come with the ability to manually set the function modes to just stimulate or express, it does this automatically.

Thank you so much for the Willow review! I seriously wasn’t sure about it, but I was looking at it and was thinking of getting it.

I also still consider the MomCozy option and have a hard time making a decision. If I get a Willow from eBay, not sure how the warranty will go, can I still register with Willow website? I don’t know much about the pumps.

I emailed Spectra when I bought (S2 Plus model) it to troubleshoot so that was a bit of a process after getting it from Amazon. But, it wasn’t too bad. Their customer service was very good I would say. FYI for those with Spectra that if you plug in two connectors for double pumping and attach first one, and get no suction& it’s loud, just put on the the other one and adjust the center of your nipple. It will do great job only after adjusting your nipple and having both sides attached! Lol, yes, I had to do long videos with some strangers and figuring it out eventually, lol. Save yourself the time!

Now, thinking what is best choice to have a lasting pump. Willow has a lot of cool options, like the bag system to prevent leaks. I am terrified of explaining people that I have no baby but breastfeeding and need to pump, or if I leak through my shirt in front of people! Lol! Having a good pump on the go to use more frequently is gonna be very important for me in order to keep it up. It is also expensive.

    Lani,

I used tens unit, but I had still some issues with my breast tissue, so I put it away and after rearranging my bedroom (my son had serious burn accident and had to take care of him 24/day/7days for awhile) I moved things around and tbh, I have no idea where my tens unit is now. Lol.

I will stick to pumping. My breast tissue is at good shape so far (MEANING: PAINFUL), all growing and getting ready, but the lactation itself is gonna take time.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Kat, Im taking moringa and most hand expressing and have managed some milk. Can’t seem to get it through pumping (spectra) yet though.

Congrats on the milk! That is amazing! Yeah, pumping isn’t doing well for me yet. I will be traveling in November for couple of weeks across different states, being away from Spectra for this long. I have no way of using it I think as I will be sharing a room with a friend during conference/s, so it would be very awkward. I may as well do more of hand expressions and use MomCozy that should arrive tomorrow. I had to cancel previous order, so I am a little annoyed. Haha….

I still need to sterilize the parts, but the motor isn’t as loud as my old wearable/broken pump.
I got S9 Pro model of MomCozy. I will update how it does in a while!

Thanks all for suggestions and help!

Women that I duce lactation do not spontaneously leak milk. Letdown doesn’t occur and if it does it’s so mild that it won’t trigger leaking. If you’re concerned about it though you could always buy breast pads.

    Elizabeth,
It will be awhile until I can produce that much to trigger leaking, I do agree. I have breastfed my son ~14 years ago, so I am not really that experienced having only 1 child and breastfeeding close to 2 years. But, yeah, at some point, the leaking happens. It happened to me even though I was not overproducing. Yeah, the pads are great and the plastic cups to keep things dry.

I will have to check some research on lactation as to why there is no spontaneous leaking in women that induce lactation. Interesting.

I’ve done a ton of research on it and I have not found a reason for why inductees do not leak. Odds are you will not produce more than 2 to 3 ounces from each breast every 3 hours. Even getting that much is a miracle for most women. Induced lactation is far different from natural lactation, I have 5 kids and breastfeeding all of them. I thought I would produce as much as I had with natural lactation, talk about a rude awakening. Low production, no leaking, very faint feelings of letdown, no engorgement (even if I do not pump for 8 hours).

If you’re on fetlife, the group “Induced lactation for women” is a great group with tons of info. The lady that runs it has been inducing for 16 years, and he got most of her info on it from DR Newman author of “a woman’s guide to breastfeeding”. He developed in partnership with Lenore Goldfarb, The Newman Goldfarb method for inducing lactation.

Unfortunately, most women cannot use the Newman Goldfarb method since it involves taking birth control pills every day in combination with domperidone, and then abruptly stopping the birth control pills after 6 months.

    Elizabeth,

This really sounds way less than what I expected! Wow! I am curious now if I can produce even. Did you also have those painful and strong uterus cramps when pumping? Lol, it feels like having period all the time😂and my periods aren’t fun times!
I am thinking to increase frequency of pumping at this time, at almost 2 weeks since I started. Going from around 5-6/day to about 8times. My nipples are sore. 🙃

About hormones: I can’t take any meds, unfortunately! But, I did read about contraceptives treatment and then withdrawal to help with inducing, which makes a total sense!

I will keep my routine and hopefully eventually something comes out. Haha…

Wow! 5 kids! How did you survive it? Haha… I only have one and it felt so much of work!

Have you had any problems with breastfeeding with your kids? I had to pump as my milk didn’t want to come in naturally, it was very painful and I was crying after c-section doing it, those pumps 16 years back were monsters! It was a true torture😂🙃

I am kind of worrying if eventually I will have to ask my dr to help out with other options.
