For the lactating ladies with established milk supplies, how long are your nursing sessions, 20 minutes at each breast?
For those working to bring milk in to (re)lactate, shorter, but more frequently (partner or pumping)?
Thank you.🤱
I don’t have milk but when attempting to induce I pumped every 2 hours for 20 to 25 mins plus 1 or 2 at night as well
I hand stimulate every 2 hours. When I pumped, it was every 2-3 hours for 15-20 minutes.
Everyone establishes what works best for their lifestyle.
After establishing milk supply, my husband and I have a twice daily routine, when waking up and before going to sleep where he empties me. It’s usually approx 10 minutes each side. Otherwise just the odd session during the day now and then on weekends , etc., as part of sex or cuddling.
What amazes me is how our bodies can establish this and maintain supply on whatever schedule we decide. I had thought I would be strapped to my pump forever, but once it was there and going well, we were able to back off to zero pumping and the twice daily and maintain supply.
@frenchiesgirl, Thank you. Our routine too, morning and evening. Was prolonged each time when we started, but after many years, maybe 10 minutes each now, at least occasionally. I do love 15-20 minutes for each breast too.
I’d love to do more “on demand” weekends throughout the day, but am concerned causing her discomfort on Mondays in case we’re triggering more milk production. Football half-times were great session times when we were beginning and baby (toddler) was weaning.
