Following on from previous thread I have copied the following for info of anyone and everyone.
To be clear, I do NOT have an STI, this is just to get the info out there.
Can I breastfeed if I have an STI?
Maybe. Some STIs affect breastfeeding, and some don’t. The following are some general guidelines, but talk to your doctor, nurse, or a lactation consultant about the risk of passing the STI to your baby while breastfeeding:
If you have HIV, do not breastfeed. You can pass the virus to your baby. In countries like the United States where clean water is available, using a breastmilk substitute like formula is recommended.
If you have chlamydia, gonorrhea, or HPV, you can breastfeed your baby.
If you have trichomoniasis, you can take the antibiotic metronidazole if you are breastfeeding. You may need to wait 12 to 24 hours after taking the medicine to breastfeed.
If you have syphilis or herpes, you can breastfeed as long as your baby or pumping equipment does not touch a sore. It is possible to spread syphilis or herpes to any part of your breast, including your nipple and areola. If you have sores on your breast, pump or hand-express your milk until the sores heal.
Pumping will help keep up your milk supply and prevent your breast from getting overly full and painful. You can store your milk to give to your baby in a bottle for another feeding.
But if parts of your breast pump also touch the sore(s) while pumping, you should throw the milk away.

April 14, 2022 at 3:36 am #125071I would just like to add to this PSA:
One STI that is not discussed above is HPV…. HPV is carried by both Male and Females. Yes, Males too! HPV can only be tested for via a PAP smear (if you don’t know what this is please ask or google), however it can be present in any person’s mucosal membranes (mouth included).
Some strains of HPV are responsible for the cause of many different cancers, including some cases of Breast Cancer (if you’d like to know the many other types of cancer it can cause please either google or just ask).
Since it cannot really be tested for at this time it is best for bith Males and Females to get an HPV Vaccine, which is approved for those through the age of 45 years old.
As this is an international site I’ll just state that information is based on CA/US standards.
Thanks and be safe!April 14, 2022 at 3:38 am #125072I would just like to add to this PSA:

PSA: While HPV and other STIs might not pass via breastmilk HPV can absolutely pass between partners during a session through skin contact. *Breastmilk is not the only way to pass STIs via ABF/ANR.* The oral mucosa can be area that can be infected and then HPV passes into the body via the many open ares of the nipple and areola.
And for just for good measure, to ensure no one misses this PSA: *Breastmilk is not the only way to pass STIs via ABF/ANR.*April 18, 2022 at 1:52 pm #126988Been trying to tell people this for years.
