InactiveSo I am new to this relactation journey. My problem is I am on HRT. I am only getting drops on occasion. Is it possible to lactate while getting HRT? I really need the HRT or I’m not a very nice person.
January 27, 2023 at 3:17 pm #237687I am on bioidentical HRT, and have been lactating for 9 months. It took longer than usual to lactate, and because I don’t have regular sucklers, just getting nice drops and an occasional stream at each pumping. I’ve used herbal supplements and they helped a little. The key is the regular and consistent pumping for bringing in more milk.

January 27, 2023 at 7:03 pm #237764Pumping will not always get the hind milk expressed. Try hand expressing after each pumping or nursing session to make sure your breasts are completely empty. That will send the needed signal to the brain to produce more milk. The brain controls the production of milk and the breasts only deliver it. Best of luck in increasing your volume.

InactiveThank you both! I am realizing that I am going to need to hand express. That is when I get drops.

InactiveYogi, I am also using the bioidentical HRT, so you give me hope!
January 29, 2023 at 2:25 am #238286Hi Beth,
Myself and Pearl, who’s also a member here and from my area are also on bioidentical hormone therapy. She’s been on it off and on for years and she’s had a pretty decent resupply. She said it took her about 21 or 22 weeks of pumping 5-6 times a day to included the early morning hours between 2-5.
I started my induced lactation back in August 2022. My milk hasn’t come in yet, but I understand using hrt does make the induction process take a little longer when only using pumps and not having a dedicated suckle partner.
Feel free to reach out to me anytime, I’ve got a plethora of research material.January 29, 2023 at 3:35 pm #238433Anonymous
InactiveThank you, Tot! (I hope it’s ok I abbreviated). I have continued to pump but I have now added manual expressing after each pump. I know I need to increase my fluid intake. I am trying to stay away from supplements as I only have 1 kidney and I don’t know what is harmful for me. I did learn yesterday that citrus is not helpful, I’ve been eating it every day – so once this batch is gone I will not buy more. Would love to stay in touch to learn and provide encouragement!
January 29, 2023 at 11:35 pm #238584@Beth and @ TOT,
I agree it takes longer on Bioidentical HRT and with only pumping. I’ve been pumping since late March 2022 and only in the past month or so am I getting more than just a few drops. If I get some human suckling for a few days, my supply does increase now. The key of course, is the regular and consistent human suckling, include the night time pumping/feeding, which I haven’t had yet. Try adding a bowl of oatmeal each day. Keep at it, Beth. Don’t get discouraged!January 30, 2023 at 12:26 pm #238861Anonymous
InactiveThank you Yogi! Slow and steady win the race! I did much better with my water intake yesterday also. So many great suggestions!
