For those of you who have dry sucked and sucked during lactation; is it more work to dry suck than when the lady is lactating? Recently learned how to properly latch; but my partner wasn’t lactating. So I was curious if it would be easier if she was? Also, any good jaw exercises to last longer?

June 19, 2023 at 9:00 am #294396I concur with Joe. The difference being that I need to have some water at hand when dry suckling. Have a bottle for your partner, too. She’ll appreciate the gesture.
Check out the forums and blogs for further information. Have fun.June 19, 2023 at 4:51 pm #294653That is interesting, I would have thought the physics of lactating would have made it easier. Good to know. Also @grogman thanks for the tip.
June 19, 2023 at 5:30 pm #294664@shorster the water is to quench my thirst after dry suckling. Not to assist in making a seal. Thirst is not a problem if she’s lactating.
June 20, 2023 at 3:06 am #295027I did enjoy dry suckling.
It is true my cheeks got tired. But taking a break and starting again is definitely good.June 20, 2023 at 7:45 pm #295381I think it also depends on if your partner enjoys a more deeper suckle or if she likes a deep hard suckle.
June 20, 2023 at 8:11 pm #295391Dry suckling is good for practicing your latch but either wet or dry it’s good to get the idea of how to latch properly once you got the flow of it you’ll know it her body’s response they way she responds cause your of how your tugging gently.
June 22, 2023 at 1:03 pm #296893Dry versus wet-nursing wasn’t as much a factor compared to the tempo and duration of the session. The times when I actually got worn out and sore in the mouth were when nursing for the purpose of inducing. I tended to increase my tempo and intensity when doing so, which would explain why it wore me out. Had I kept my pace at first gear, long sessions like those would have been more comfortable. And that raises another question- would a slower, gentler pace have been just as effective for the inducing itself?
June 22, 2023 at 5:19 pm #297039I think the longer suckles were more important for me than the stronger suckles.

InactiveA slow, steady suckle (not too much suction pressure) was always very effective for me. Good latch technique and a swallowing action rather than sucking, massively reduces fatigue and allows for much longer suckling time. My experience was primarily with wet suckling. As for stimulating milk flow I found there to be no need for a stronger suction at all, but then my late wife was lactating after birth of our son and we just maintained her milk. So not possibly the same as inducing without pregnancy.

InactiveI like a strong suckler does it for me. I can feel how passionate they are when they suckle and we can bond deeper.
June 23, 2023 at 12:19 am #297283Yeah I would also say that when you feel like your mouth is getting tied stop. Because if you don’t have a proper latch you can make her sore or if trying for production. You can damage the ducts and prevent lactation.
June 23, 2023 at 2:46 am #297347Adjust the strength of the draw to your partner’s preference. If sucking is going on, your technique needs adjustment.
