ABF/ANR Dating & Relationships
› Personal Ads & Forum › General Discussion › “Public Message” button has been removed, unnecessary
I have removed the “Send Public Message” button from all profiles, I always thought this button was pointless really. What’s it for? Why would you want to speak to someone “publicly” on a dating site? What if they don’t want you to address them publicly, for all to see?
(Note: when someone adds an update about themself using the “What’s new?” on their profile Activity section, then that’s different. They are effectively inviting public comments.)
Also, occasionally people were sending public messages which should really have been sent privately. Maybe accidentally, but I thought it a bit inappropriate.
Anyway, that button is gone. On Profile pages, you can now….
– Private Message
– Add Friend
– Block
Nice and clear.
Good move Michael in removing the
“Send Public Message” option on all our profiles. I agree with your sentiments entirely, there’s really little point in this option.
It’s a carry-over from the original ABF site on the same WordPress platform & although I seem to remember more members using it on the original site, I certainly haven’t noticed many using it on here.
As well as most members, I’m sure, not wanting to be contacted publicly by members, there’s a chance if you had selected that option accidentally, when 1st messaging someone that you might put in personal details that you certainly wouldn’t have wanted to make public, but as we all know about the internet, once it’s out there, it STAYS out there!
So no great loss, well done. 👍 😊
Good call, I approve! I was previously always double checking I was really clicking on the right kind of send message 😀
