Wondering if users might like a “Site Activity” button above the chat?
It shows a full rundown of (almost) all recent site activity … newly registered users, profile updates, friends connections made, forum updates, personal ads updates.
Click the “Activity” button above the chatroom to see.
Who likes or doesn’t like it? Opinions needed please!
The intention is to increase a sense of “community”, to show everyone they are part of a lively, active group.
Please comment below. Good or bad?
Or if you do NOT like this (maybe it is a bit intrusive?) and prefer to say so privately, then please send me a Private Message.
December 23, 2024 at 12:04 pm #521598It might be good idea for a month or 2 and then ask the community
December 23, 2024 at 12:28 pm #521599Agreed. This way we might have a better idea of what we like and dislike about it. Right now I vote not really.😜
December 23, 2024 at 12:51 pm #521601I’m in favor. Wasn’t there something like that on the site around the time I first joined (approx. two years ago)?
December 23, 2024 at 1:22 pm #521604As Philip mentions, is this similar to the previous site activity widget? I think it’s a good thing as it shows that the site is active. I don’t think it *has* to show everything though, maybe forum replies, profile status updates? At the moment status updates are not seen unless you view somebody’s profile.
December 23, 2024 at 3:27 pm #521619I think that it sounds great. The friends made part may kind of fill it up though. It seems that that would be a lot of: a new lady joins the site and 50 guys send her a friend request lol
December 23, 2024 at 3:41 pm #521621I’m for it!
December 23, 2024 at 3:45 pm #521623@ jessica… yes, but thankfully only “accepted” friendships will get displayed. But I have mixed feelings even about that; some users might not want that being flagged up for all to see. Of course, only “non private” info gets shown in the activities feed, stuff which is displayed on a user profile. But the new-friends thing is kind of a grey area, I feel.
Btw, I think I can get it to include “completed puzzles” too, so it would say, for example, “user x completed puzzle number 999” … so guess who would be cluttering that up, then? 🤣
December 23, 2024 at 3:48 pm #521624@ London man… yes it’s basically the same, but that widget had to be removed cause it displayed on all pages and was slowing down page loading speed dramatically. There was no easy solution so it was removed. I always missed it!
December 23, 2024 at 3:49 pm #521625@ Philip… Yes, you are right.
December 23, 2024 at 4:30 pm #521635I think anonymous feedback is a good idea.
That’s how feedbacks are supposed to be….!!!December 23, 2024 at 4:41 pm #521636ok!
December 23, 2024 at 4:56 pm #521640Good or bad… is it necessary?
There is only so much to do on the site. I don’t feel it necessary to see who’s friends with who, when they commented in the forum or the change of a picture in real time. These things can be accessed other places and it’s just a click away.
Do people have the option to delete their activity as they do in their profile?
December 23, 2024 at 5:16 pm #521645@ Bella… No, currently there’s no way for users to delete or opt out of their activity being shown in the feed.
So, these are the only items which get shown, nothing else.
– when a new user registers (more specifically, when their account is approved and they have full access to the site)
– when a user changes their profile picture.
– when a user updates the info on their profile (for example, they change their About Me description)
– when two users become friends.
– when a user posts in the forum (new topic or reply)
– when a user posts a personal ad (new ad or reply)
– when a user does a quick update using the “What’s New?” form (shown at the top of the feed)What’s it for? Good question. I suppose it’s just a handy way to get an overview of what’s going on on the site.
Is it necessary? Probably not.
Is it useful? Maybe.
